FORT WORTH - Five Sooners scored in double figures as No. 16 Oklahoma overpowered UT Arlington 89-80 at the Maggie Dixon Classic on Sunday night.
Taylor Robertson buried five 3-pointers to lead all scorers with 21 points as the Sooners (4ā1) notched their second win of the season over a 2022 NCAA Tournament team.
"A lot of credit to our team for that effort," head coach
Jennie Baranczyk said. "It's not easy to come off the road like we did and beat a really good team. Credit to UT Arlington for fighting back, I mean that's a very good team."
The Sooners jumped out to a big first-half lead, grabbing a 19-point advantage with 4:35 left in the half, but the Lady Mavs (2-2), who won the Sun Belt last season, battled back. UTA outscored Oklahoma 33-21 in the third and half of the fourth quarter to tie the game at 69. With the game on the line, Robertson, Fort Worth native
Madi Williams and
Skylar Vann combined for 15 of the Sooners' final 18 points to pull away and secure the win.
Robertson sunk five 3-pointers en route to her 21 points. It was the sharpshooter's 39th career game doing so, tying St. Francis' Jess Kovatch's NCAA record. Vann tallied the fourth double-double of her career and first of the season, pouring in 14 points and grabbing a career-high 12 rebounds. Williams added 16 points in the win on 7-of-12 shooting and pulled down six rebounds while dishing out a trio of assists.
Nevaeh Tot scored 11 points with six assists, and
Liz Scott finished with 10 points and nine boards.
The Sooners shot 53% from the field and made nine of their 21 3-point attempts (43%) in the win. They held UT Arlington to 41% shooting and improved to 25-2 under Baranczyk when holding their opponent under 42% from the field. Powered by Vann's six offensive boards, Oklahoma matched a season-high with 16 offensive rebounds en route to a +10 rebounding margin.
Oklahoma is set for a quick turnaround as it will wrap up its four-game road swing at Arkansas State on Tuesday night.
