Darrien Roberts Claims NCAA Wrestler of the Week Honor

NORMAN --- Darrien Roberts was recognized as the NCAA Wrestler of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday.

Roberts clinched the Wrestler of the Week award after amassing a 5-1 record, including upsets over No. 8 and No. 23, at Journeymen WrangleMania and Journeymen Collegiate Classic. His showings moved him up to No. 13 in the 174-pound weight class.

"It's exciting to see Darien's extra work pay off," head coach Lou Rosselli said. "He has made a lot of progress and is wrestling so well right now. I think he believes in himself and it's showing in competition."

The senior clinched the 174-pound pool championship trophy at the Journeymen Collegiate Classic after collecting a pin, 7-6 decision win, and a 4-3 upset over No. 8 Conigliaro (Harvard).

Roberts also won both of his bouts in the Journeymen WrangleMania. He rolled through his first match with a 5-1 decision over No. 23 Nivison (Buffalo), followed by a 2-1 tiebreaker win over Lehigh's Logan.

This is Darrien's first career honor.
