Alumni Spotlight: Brianne Barker-Groth

NORMAN – The Oklahoma volleyball team will be hosting Alumni Weekend against Iowa State at 6 p.m. Saturday inside McCasland Field House. This week we will feature top alumni returning to Norman for this weekend's festivities.
 
We continue our Alumni Spotlight features for this week with Brianne Barker-Groth. One of the most decorated Sooners in program history, Barker-Groth was a two-time AVCA All-America Third Team honoree, two-time AVCA All-Central Region First Team and four-time All-Big 12 Team honoree. In 2010, she also made the 2010 NCAA All-Tournament Team and A2 USA National Team.
 
She also helped the Sooners reach their third Sweet Sixteen in program history during the 2010 NCAA Tournament, while also excelling in the classroom, earning two Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors. Barker-Groth has etched her name five times in the record book, including program-best records for assists in a single season with 1,340 in 2010 and assists in a three-set match with 44 at Baylor on Nov. 9, 2009. She also is third-best in program history for career assists (4,637 during 2008-11), career digs (1,374 during 2008-11) and third in program history for assists in a single season (1,231 in 2011).

Why did you choose OU?
The family atmosphere, the university's commitment to their student athletes, and my teammates!
 
What is your best memory at OU?
Playing Penn State in Happy Valley during the Sweet Sixteen in 2010!
 
What do you miss most from your time at OU?
My girls! I really miss my teammates and all of the hard but rewarding experiences. Relationships were the best part.
 
How did OU prepare you to be successful after your volleyball career?
The education I received, not just from classes but from athletic experiences as well, set me up to work through hard times and give maximum effort on everything I did. Ultimately, I feel that OU was a huge reason for the success I have had in my professional life! Forever a Sooner!
