Cream Defeats Crimson in Annual Crimson & Cream Dual

NORMAN — Team Cream earned a 28-10 victory over Team Crimson in OU Wrestling'sĀ annual Crimson & Cream Dual, held Saturday at McCasland Field House.Ā 

"I liked what I saw today," head coach Lou Rosselli said following the scrimmage. "I saw a really competitive team. We have a little more depth than we've had in the past."

The intrasquadĀ scrimmage began with a 125-pound weight class meeting between Joey Prata and newcomer Christian Forbes. Prata picked up a fall over Forbes in 6:10, followed by a 9-0 major decision over Joey Cruz in the final.

Next up was Gabe Vidlak securing an 8-1 decision over Kaden Smith in the 133-pound weight class semifinals. Vidlak and Iowa transfer Wyatt Henson fought in a close-scoring battle, but Henson prevailed with a 3-2 victory.

Being the only two in the 141-pound weight class, Mosha Schwartz and Jackson Oplotnik skipped the semifinals and squared off in the finals. In the second period, Schwartz recorded a fall at the 5:36 mark to win the bout.

Returning from a season-ending injury, Mitch Moore led the 149-pound weight class bouts with a 17-2 tech fall over Brice O'Hara and a 2-0 edge over Big 12 runner-up Willie McDougald.

Following an NCAA berth last season, Jacob Butler returned to the mat with a 9-5 decision over newcomer John Wiley in the semifinals and a 3-2 victory over Alejandro Herrera-Rondon in the 157-pound weight class.

In his debut as a Sooner, Purdue transfer Gerrit Nijenhuis amassed two pins in the first period of both of his 165-pound weight class battles.

Darrien Roberts dominated his match, 13-3, against Thatcher Hall in the 174 pounds.Ā 

In the 184-pound weight class finals, Greyden Penner only surrendered points to Tate Picklo via escape. Penner clinched the 5-3 win in his first season competing.

In two tight bouts, newcomer Seth SeagoĀ postedĀ a 2-1 win over Mohamed Elgourhari in the 197-pound semifinals and a 3-2 triumph over Carson Berryhill in the final.

Heavyweight Josh Heindselman concluded the scrimmage with a pin over Ryder Wiese at the 4:49 mark.Ā 

The Sooners, ranked No. 25 in the preseason, will start their season at the Michigan State Open on Saturday, Nov. 5.
