DESTIN, Fla. — Four members of the Oklahoma men's tennis team closed the first weekend of the fall slate at the Battle of the Beach tournament in Florida on Sunday.
"This was a nice start to the season for our guys," head coach Nick Crowell said. "They have worked extremely hard in the preseason and it showed this weekend. They won a lot of close matches, coming through some very tough competition."
Nathan Han, Jordan Hasson, Welsh Hotard and Justin Schlageter combined for 12 wins on the weekend. Han and Schlageter remained undefeated in singles competition at the three-day tournament.
"Justin and Nathan both went undefeated in singles this weekend," Crowell said. "Our fitness and overall mental toughness was key, and we look forward to seeing the team battle again next weekend."
Day two highlighted five of six victories on the day for the Sooners with both doubles' teams earning wins. The final day of the tournament included a singles' competition sweep from the Sooners. The four student-athletes won seven of their last eight singles' matches on the tournament.
Freshman Hasson made his collegiate debut, winning two singles' matches and two doubles' with teammate Schlageter.
Up next for the Sooners is the Battle of the Bay in San Francisco, Calif., set to open Sept. 16.
