NORMAN ā For the second year in a row, a University of Oklahoma gymnast is the Big 12 Female Athlete of the Year as senior Anastasia Webb was named the winner by the conference office Tuesday. Baylor men's basketball player Jared Butler was named the male athlete of the year.

Fourteen Sooners have now been named Big 12 Athlete of the Year in the 25-year history of the league, including an incredible 10 in the last nine years. OU has also claimed at least one honor in six of the last eight years, including at least one in each of the last four. Webb is the sixth Sooner female to win the award and fourth in the last six years. She is just the second gymnast from any school to win the award, joining former teammate Maggie Nichols (2017-18 and 2019-20 honoree).

OU's other Big 12 Athletes of the Year were Jalen Hurts (2019-20; football), Kyler Murray (2018-19; football), Baker Mayfield (2017-18; football), Lauren Chamberlain (2014-15; softball), Keilani Ricketts (2012-13; softball), Sam Bradford (2008-09; football), Jason White (2003-04; football), Stacey Dales (2001-02; women's basketball) and Josh Heupel (2000-01; football).

Nominees for this year's Big 12 Athlete of the Year awards were submitted by Big 12 institutions and selected by a media panel based on athletic performance, academic achievement and citizenship. Fan voting conducted via Big12Sports.com also was a consideration in the final tallies.

As a senior, Webb was named the Honda Sport Award Winner for gymnastics before being named a Top Three Finalist for the Honda Cup. She was the first gymnast in program history and just the second Sooner to ever earn Top Three honors.

A three-time individual national champion in 2021, Webb was just the ninth gymnast in NCAA history to earn three titles in one season. Her three individual crowns rank her third all-time at OU. The Morton Grove, Ill., native claimed the all-around, vault and floor national championships with one of her best performances of the season.

The 2021 Big 12 Gymnast of the Year, Region 4 Gymnast of the Year and an AAI Finalist, Webb helped lead Oklahoma to an NCAA runner-up finish in her senior season and was the only gymnast in the nation to earn first-team All-America accolades on all four events and in the all-around. Webb finished her career with 20 All-America honors to her name to rank second in OU history.

In 2021, Webb earned four perfect 10s with two on vault and one each on bars and beam. She earned a career high of 39.850 in the all-around and racked up 33 career event titles. Webb ranks second in OU history with 67 event wins.

Webb competed in every single meet of her OU career, picking up nine All-Big 12 team accolades, three individual Big 12 crowns and two major Big 12 awards. The No. 1 ranked gymnast in the nation on vault, she also excelled in the classroom as a three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection. She graduated in May with a degree in health, medicine and society and will begin working toward a master's degree in health administrationĀ this fall.
