Four Sooners Named to National Team After US Championships

FORT WORTH – Four Sooners have been named to the National Team concluding the 2021 U.S. Championships in Fort Worth, Texas. 

Yul Moldauer finished day two in second place with an overall score of 167.950 and Allan Bower found himself in fifth with a score of 166.150. Moldauer and Bower's top six finishes have secured them a spot on the National Team and a Spot at the Olympic Trials on June 24-27 in St. Louis, Mo.

Gage Dyer has also been named to the National Team based off of point values after the two day competition. They will join Guimaraes, who has automatically qualified to the Trials from competing on Team U.S.A. at the Pan American Championships this weekend.

Matt Wenske and Genki Suzuki also competed in the U.S. Championships. 

Starting the night off on pommel horse, Bower led the pack with a solid 14.300 score. In combination with his 14.250 on Thursday night, Bower finished third in the event overall. Suzuki put up a 13.300, which helped him to claim sixth on the event. 

Moving to still rings next, Moldauer led the squad with a 14.450 to put him in the No. 3 spot. Bower put up a 13.700 and was closely followed by Suzuki (13.600) and Wenske (13.550). 

The team moved to vault and four Sooners finished in the top nine. Dyer leads the squad with an overall score of 28.950, tying him in second place. Bower sits in fourth with a 28.850 and Wenske is tied for the No. 5 spot with a 28.800. Moldauer finished the event with a 28.650, putting him in ninth. 

On parallel bars, Moldauer claimed the event title with an overall score of 29.150. Wenske's 13.800 from tonight's competition helped him to claim seventh overall. 

For the fifth rotation of day two, the Sooners took on high bar. The squad was paced by Suzuki (13.800) who earned himself the bronze for the event. Wenske (13.200) and Moldauer (13.100) followed close behind.  

The squad closed out day one on floor and had three gymnasts claimed spots in the top six. Dyer's 14.800 from tonight's competition and 14.550 from Thursday tallied up to a 29.350. putting him in the No. 2 spot for the floor exercise. Moldauer holds third with an overall score of 28.800 and Bower's 28.450 puts him in sixth. 

In addition to the senior men's competition, incoming Sooner Cailen Walker competed in the junior division and holds sixth place on pommel horse (24.600) and tied for sixth on floor (25.100).

Past Sooner Colin Van Wicklen qualified for the U.S. Championships but did not compete due to illness. He is petitioning to compete in the Olympic Trials. 

Three spots still remain to be filled on the National Team and should be confirmed Sunday, June 6.
