OU's Late Comeback Falls Short vs. OSU

OKLAHOMA CITY – Peyton Graham went 3 for 5 with two RBIs, but the Oklahoma baseball team's ninth-inning comeback attempt fell short in a 9-5 defeat to Oklahoma State late Wednesday night in the 2021 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
The fifth-seeded Sooners (27-27) will face top-seeded Texas at 12:30 p.m. Thursday. The contest will be televised on ESPNU.
Oklahoma scored all five of its runs with two outs in the ninth inning, and had two runners on base when the game ended at nearly 1 a.m. Thursday. Jimmy Crooks drew a leadoff walk and scored on a wild pitch to plate OU's first run. Breydon Daniel and Kendall Pettis drew back-to-back bases-loaded walks, and Graham knocked a two-run single up the middle to make the score 9-5.
Graham led off the game with a double to right center field and also singled in the fourth inning. Brandon Zaragoza singled in the fifth and Conor McKenna singled in the seventh inning.
The Cowboys (33-16-1) scored single runs in the first and fourth innings on solo home runs by Caeden Trenkle and Matt Golda. OSU pulled away with four runs in the fifth inning, then added three runs in the seventh. Trenkle finished with three RBIs and Marcus Brown went 3 for 4 in the game.
OU starter Jason Ruffcorn (4-2) took the loss and OSU starter Justin Campbell (7-1) earned the win.
