NORMAN - Oklahoma volleyball coach
Lindsey Gray-Walton announced Thursday the addition of transfer Savannah Davison, who will join the Sooners for the 2021 season and have two seasons of eligibility remaining.Ā
A native of Toronto, Ontario, Davison comes to Oklahoma after a four-year stint at New Mexico State. Davison redshirted as a freshman before leading the Aggies to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2018 and 2019. DavisonĀ joins a senior class that consists of fourĀ returning starters, including Big 12 All-Conference performers
Paige Anderson, who missed 2020 due to injury and
Sarah Sanders. Both will be returning for their additional COVIDĀ year while finishing their degrees.
"In the early conversations, there was an immediate connection between our staff, players and Savannah, " Gray-Walton said. "The alignment of goals for Savannah personally along with our vision for Oklahoma Volleyball becoming a championship program were a match and we couldn't be more thrilled to welcome Savannah to the program. The uniqueness of the COVID year has provided many opportunities for players like Savannah to maximize their academic and playing experience. In recruiting, two things always stand out: when a player is intrinsically motivated to be better each day combined with an excitement towards wanting
Ā to be a part of your program. That relentless competitive spirit is why Savannah has proven to be agile to adversity and clutch in the big moments for her teams and will continue to do so here at Oklahoma. We are excited to have her on our side of the net next fall!"
Davison was a member of the 2020 WAC Regular Season Championship Team and 2019 WAC Tournament Championship team. She is a two-time first-team All-WAC selection and a WAC All-Freshman team selection. In her final season with the Aggies, Davison notched 182 kills and 144 digs as she helped the team to a 16-2 record. In 18 games, she recorded double-digit kills in 10 and tallied six double-doubles. Davison was named to the VolleyballMag.com Honorable Mention All-America team.Ā
In 2019, she started all 31 matches as an outside and led the Aggies with 384 kills on the year and 3.56 kills per set. She tallied double-digit kills in all but seven matches that season with 10 double-doubles. She recorded a career-best 19 kills and has a career mark of 25 digs set in 2018.
"I chose the University of Oklahoma because of the respected standard kept in athletics and academics," Davison said. "I believe that this was the best opportunity for me to succeed, with help of teammates and coaches."
Davison has been selected for the Canadian NextGen teamĀ which is a pathway for the Senior National Team.Ā The Women's NextGen Program is hosted at the National Training Centre in Richmond, BC (Olympic Oval). The 10-week session, from May 24 to July 30, will provide the identified athletes with a full-time training environment that focuses on technical and tactical development in line with the women's Senior A team.
Prior to New Mexico State, Davison was a three-year letter winner at St. Mary's High School in Toronto, Canada. She guided St. Mary's to a 40-12 record during her time on the team while serving as the team captain for two seasons. She is the daughter of Bill Davison and Barbara Byrne and has a younger sister, Eryn.
