COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Oklahoma women's golf team moved into ninth place by carding a 24-over 312 on Tuesday in the second round of the NCAA Columbus Regional. Entering the final day of play, the No. 9-seeded Sooners sit just five shots behind the cut line that will determine who advances to the NCAA Championship.

"Obviously today was a rough day," 12th-year head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said after the round. "We let the golf course hit us in the gut, and we couldn't shake it off. That stretch from Nos. seven thru 13 is really tough, and you've got to stay in the moment and being able to shake it off and forget about what happened, and we didn't do that today."

After a near-perfect day of weather on Monday, Tuesday's round brought chilly temperatures and wind in the afternoon that ballooned scorecards across the field. The low-round of the day belonged to Georgia (1, +1), who posted an even-par 288 to move into first. No other team finished below seven-over-par, and the field average was 18-over-par. The Sooners (+22, 598) entered the day on top of the leaderboard but were passed on the back nine as the team posted a 24-over-par on the day.

"This is what the Scarlet Course is," Drouin-Luttrell said. "The course today showed its teeth. You get a little bit of wind and it's going to play hard. It's cold and windy, which is just a tough combination. At the end of the day, you've got to just take it and move on. You cannot be out here and try and make something special happen - pars are actually fantastic and birdies are rare. You just have to be yourself and do what you do best."

Teams will play a final 18 holes on Wednesday, and the top six teams on the leaderboard, along with the low-three players not on a qualifying team, will advance to the NCAA Championship, slated for May 21-26 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Kaitlin Milligan (13, +3) leads the Sooners after shooting a 77 (+5) on Tuesday to drop from second to 13th. The senior golfer is eight shots off the lead but is tied for third among players not on qualifying teams entering the final round.

Mikhaela Fortuna (T21, +7) had the Sooners' low-round of the day, closing with two pars and a birdie to post a 4-over 76 to move up to 20th after 36 holes. The Philippines product has been one of the team's best players this spring, accumulating a 71.78 scoring average since rejoining the Sooners in January.

Hannah Screen (T34, +9) and Libby Winans (T34, +9) share 34th place after tallying a 79 (+7) and 80 (+8) respectively on the day. The two juniors trail 21st place by two strokes as just four strokes separate 27 golfers between 19th and 40th at the regional.

Maria Fernanda Martinez (T77, +14) was just six-over before a quadruple-bogey on 16 and bogey on 18 moved her into 77th on the week.

The Sooners will have a chance to move up the leaderboard and into one of the six advancing spots when they tee off at 9 a.m. off hole No. 1 with Virginia (7, +19) and Vanderbilt (8, +21).

The top six squads follow the Sooners in groups of three off the first tee, and if necessary, teams will use a playoff format to break ties.

Spectators are permitted at the Regional based on local/state guidelines, which are subject to change. It is requested that spectators wear masks at all times and follow physical distancing protocols, including remaining at least 15 yards away from student-athletes, coaches and other team personnel. Spectators must also keep distanced from tee boxes and greens. The event is free of charge.
