Dyer Awarded 2021 CGA Specialist of the Year

MINNEAPOLIS – Senior Gage Dyer was awarded the 2021 CGA Specialist of the Year, the College Gymnastics Association announced Thursday night.
After a unique and challenging season, Dyer proved that he was worthy of national recognition.
As one of the Sooners' team captains this season, Dyer finished the regular season in the top spot on floor exercise with a 14.850 NQA, putting him 0.200 ahead of his closest competitor. Dyer held the top spot, earned seven event titles throughout the duration of the season and holds the Sooners' season best score on floor exercise with a 14.950. Dyer was also recognized as the NCAA's Event Specialist twice on floor during the regular season. After being injured and out from competition for two weeks during the season, Dyer returned to the floor against No. 4 Stanford University and won the event title. Dyer put up a score of 14.600, putting him 0.250 ahead of his closest competitor.
In addition to floor, Dyer helped lead the team to their ninth straight MPSF Conference title Saturday, April 3. He tallied a 14.800 on vault at the MPSF Conference Championships, crowning him the champion, as well as good for a season-best score. The event title was his second for the season on vault and his 14.800 improves his season high by 0.050, and holds the eight spot on vault for the nation.
Between Dyer's floor and vault routines, he will look to lead the Sooners to the NCAA Finals Saturday, April 17, in search for the team's 13 national title. With another national championship title for the team, Dyer will have been a part of three National Championship teams at OU.
