NORMAN – Nine members of the Oklahoma volleyball team were named 2021 Academic All-Big 12 selections, the conference announced Tuesday.

Sabrina Simms and sophomores
Abby Butler,
Olivia Curtis and Sanaa Dotson all earned first-team recognition.
Overall, 79 Big 12 student-athletes earned the academic recognition this year, with 74 being placed on the first team and five on the second team. Iowa State paced the league with 12 honorees.
OU was tied with Texas Tech to lead the league in those honored with 4.0 GPAs as Butler, Sanders and Morikawa all recorded top marks.
Under third-year head coach
Lindsey Gray-Walton, at least six Sooners have been honored each year during her tenure with 23 total athletes earning accolades. The nine athletes recognized in 2021 marks the most under Gray-Walton.
Maras and Sanders each earned their third career honors. Morikawa and Harty were honored for the second time while Butler, Curtis, Dotson and Simms each earned their first career recognitions.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
