Sooners Finish Regular Season in No. 1 Spot

NORMAN – After week ten of NCAA men's gymnastics competition, Oklahoma continues to hold the top spot in the College Gymnastics Association (CGA) standings. The No. 1 Sooners defeated No. 11 Cal last weekend, 404.700-390.600.
The Sooners hold the top team average (413.867) and hold a top three spot in all six events. The Sooners rank first on floor exercise (71.150), second on still rings (68.300), vault (72.783), parallel bars (68.867) and high bar (67.217) and third on pommel horse (67.383).
Individually, Sooners hold three of the top 10 spots in the all-around rankings, led by junior Spencer Goodell's 81.467, which is good for seventh. Junior Vitaliy Guimaraes holds ninth with an 80.917 and senior Matt Wenske ranks tenth in the nation with his 80.867 all-around NQA.
On floor exercise, Sooners hold two of the top five spots in the CGA standings. Senior Gage Dyer ranks No. 1 with a 14.850, putting him 0.200 ahead of his closet opponent. Junior Morgan Seyler ranks fifth at 14.450.
On still rings, three Sooners find themselves in the top 10. Wenske leads the way with his 13.917 average that ranks ninth overall. In tenth, Guimaraes holds his third top-10 spot in the country on rings with a 13.817 average, and Goodell is right behind him in 12th with a 13.767.
The Sooners have two in the top-10 on vault. Senior Mason Menser is ranked fourth in the nation with a 14.717. Wenske holds the ten spot with a 14.650 vault NQA. Dyer holds twelfth with a 14.617.
Oklahoma put two gymnasts in the top 10 in the parallel bars ranks following week ten. Wenske (14.167) ranks fourth, while sophomore Cesar Gracia (13.950) holds tenth. Goodell (13.800) follows in twelfth and sophomore Alan Camillus (13.783) holds thirteenth.
On the last event, high bar, Guimaraes collects his third top-10 spot in the country with a 13.800 average, putting him in the four spot. Sophomore Jack Freeman finds himself ninth with a 13.667.
The Sooners will take a week off from competition before squaring off against No. 3 Stanford, No. 11 Cal, and No. 14 Air Force at the MPSF Conference Championships, Saturday, April 3 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
