NORMAN — The No. 1 Oklahoma softball team took the first matchup of the three-game exhibition series over Team Mexico on Friday night by a score of 11-0.

Redshirt senior Giselle Juarez was exceptional in the circle, going six innings for the Sooners and surrendering just two hits to the Mexican National Team. Juarez collected four strikeouts in the performance and walked a pair.

Senior Lynnsie Elam went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate to propel Oklahoma's offense to 11 runs on 18 hits. Elam batted in a trio of runs on three singles and stole a base on the night.

Oklahoma began the scoring in the bottom of the second inning on an Elam single through the left side that plated fellow senior Jana Johns.

In the bottom of the third, OU put up three more runs courtesy of a home run by junior Grace Lyons and RBI singles from Johns and Elam.

Following two scoreless innings from both teams, OU exploded for seven runs on seven hits in the sixth.

Freshman Tiare Jennings got things started in the frame with an RBI single to left field before a bases-loaded walk to Lyons brought in another run. Senior Taylon Snow batted in two more OU runs on a single through the right side prior to an RBI double from freshman Jayda Coleman and Elam's third RBI of the night on a single to center.

Nine Sooners recorded at least one hit in the contest, with six registering two or more. Jennings followed closely behind Elam's perfect performance at the plate with a 3-for-4, one RBI and one stolen base showing while Lyons and Coleman each went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.

Redshirt senior Shannon Saile closed for the Sooners in the seventh, retiring the three batters she faced to give OU the exhibition victory in game one over the Olympic squad.

Playing by international rules, the top of the seventh inning was played and the game did not finish as a run rule. No records or statistics from this weekend's series count toward OU's 2021 NCAA season.

The teams are back on the diamond Saturday for a noon CT first pitch at Marita Hynes Field before the series cap on Sunday at noon. Tomorrow's action can be seen on FOX Sports Oklahoma+ and heard via The Franchise 2 (103.3 FM, 1560 AM) in Oklahoma and the TuneIn app nationwide.
