March 10, 2021 | Softball
NORMAN — The No. 1 Oklahoma softball team rolled to another run-rule victory Wednesday night over UT-Arlington, 14-0, in five innings.
The Sooners stacked their 14th run-rule win of the season and 12th shutout on the year, bringing their record to an undefeated 18-0.
Oklahoma didn't take long to get on the scoreboard, blasting two home runs in the team's first four at-bats. Senior Jocelyn Alo hit a two-run shot to right center before sophomore Kinzie Hansen drilled her 10th home run of the season two batters later on a two run shot to right. Following an RBI single by freshman Jayda Coleman and sac-fly RBI courtesy of senior Lynnsie Elam, the first inning ended with OU up, 6-0.
The Sooners went back to work in the second inning, launching three more home runs in the bottom frame. Jennings hit her first homer of the game on a deep shot to center field before Alo made it back-to-back blasts on a crushed ball that hit off the scoreboard for her second round-tripper of the game and NCAA-best 15th of the season.
Following a bases-loaded hit by pitch to senior Jana Johns that plated another OU run, redshirt senior Nicole Mendes laced a two-RBI single to right field. Jennings stepped back into the box for her second at-bat of the inning and launched her second home run of the game to right field to make it 14-0, Sooners.
The trio of Jennings, Alo and Hansen paced OU in the batter's box on the night. Jennings finished a perfect 3-for-3, four RBI performance with two home runs. Alo followed close behind with a 2-for-3, three RBI showing, also hitting a pair of home runs and extending her hitting streak to 32 straight games. Hansen collected two hits in her three at-bats to go with three RBIs and one homer.
Freshman Nicole May collected her sixth win of the season in the circle, striking out a pair and allowing just two hits to her nine batters faced and no walks or runs in 2.2 innings pitched. Sophomores Macy McAdoo (1.2 IP) and Olivia Rains (0.2 IP) combined to finish the shutout for the Sooners, with McAdoo striking out two to Rains one strikeout. The sophomore duo allowed just two more hits to the Mavericks in their final nine batters of the game.
The top-ranked Sooners are outscoring opponents 231-18 on the year and brought their season home run total to 66 following tonight's win, good for first in the nation.
