OU Fires 276, Shoots Up Leaderboard

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.Ā - After entering Saturday in a tie for fifth and 12 shots off the lead, the top-ranked Oklahoma men's golf team fired a field-low 276 (-12) to move into third and just six shots off the leaders after 36 holes at the Seminole Intercollegiate.
The Sooners (565, -11) collected 25 birdies as a team to shoot up the leaderboard as they chase their fifth-straight top-5 finish. Logan McAllister led head coach Ryan Hybl's team on day two, firing a 66 to move into a tie for 14th at 2-under. All five Sooners shot even or under-par in Saturday's round, marking the first occurrence this season.Ā
"The guys did a great job today getting us back in the game for tomorrow's final round," Ā Hybl said. "It's always great to have the low round of the day, and we'll need another great one tomorrow."
Despite McAllister's big day, Patrick Welch (137, -7) still sits atop the Sooners' leaderboard in a tie for third after carding back-to-back rounds in the 60s for the second time of his career. His Saturday 68 (-4) moved the junior to 7-under at the event. Welch was electric on the front nine, sinking a trio of birdies and an eagle to move into second before collecting eight pars and a bogey on the back to fall into third.Ā
McAllister (142, -2), a junior from Oklahoma City, was the star of Saturday's round. His score of 66 (-6) moved him up 41 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 14th. He sunk seven birdies and just one bogey as he tied the second-lowest round of his career.Ā
"Logan played a solid round, and Patrick continued his nice play as well," Hybl said. "We'll need all five guys in the game tomorrow in order to have a chance, but I'm confident they'll be ready."
Redshirt senior Quade Cummins (143, -1) continued his strong play, shooting an even-par to remain inside the top 20 after 36 holes. A strong finish on Sunday would give the All-American the 25th top-25 finish of his collegiate career.Ā
After a string of four bogeys early in his round, All-American GarettReband (145, +1) fired eight pars and four birdies to card an even-par 72 and grab a share of 31st entering the final round.Ā
Joining Welch and McAllister in the red was Thomas Johnson (148, +4), whose 2-under 70 marks his lowest round since the 2020 Puerto Rico Classic. The redshirt senior opened his day with three birdies and piled on two more throughout his round to sit T45 after 36 holes.
As an individual, Jonathan Brightwell (145, +1) leads all unattached golfers after Saturday's second round. The All-American caught fire on the back nine, sinking five birdies to score a 70 (-2) and finish his day T31.
No. 1 Oklahoma will tee off from the first hole with leaders No. 15 Florida State and second-place Liberty at 8:30 on Sunday morning.
