Oklahoma Opens Spring at Moon Golf

February 13, 2021 | Women's Golf

MELBOURNE, Fla. — The Oklahoma women's golf team is set to open the 2021 spring season this weekend in Melbourne, Fla., at the fourth annual Moon Golf Invitational, slated for Feb. 14-16. The three-day, 54-hole event is hosted by Louisville and takes place at the par-72 6,383-yard Duran Golf Club.

"We're ready to get back on the course this week at Moon Golf," head coach VeroniqueDrouin-Luttrell said. "It's a great field; it might be the best we face all spring. We played there a few years ago and enjoyed the tournament and the golf course. I'm excited to see what our players bring this week as we've got a little bit of a different lineup."

Oklahoma enters the spring ranked ninth nationally in the Golfstat.com poll and No. 16 in the GolfweekSagarin rankings. In the fall, the Sooners notched a runner-up finish at the Schooner Fall Classic and rallied for bronze at the Longhorn Invitational.

The Sooners' lineup features five golfers who all played for Drouin-Lutrell in 2019-20 or last fall, including two golfers ranked inside the top 20. Kaitlin Milligan, who owns the school's record for single-season scoring, leads the Sooners. On the second and third bag for OU is No. 9 Hannah Screen and No. 20 Libby Winans, respectively. Then rounding out the Sooners lineup is Mikhaela Fortuna, who makes her return to the team after missing the fall season, and Maria Fernanda Martinez, who collected her first top-20 finish last fall.

Live scoring will be available on Golfstat.
