Sooners Conclude Weekend at Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas — The Oklahoma men's and women's track and field teams capped day two of the Texas Tech Shootout in Lubbock, Texas, notching one victory and multiple personal bests. 

The Sooners' win of the day came from redshirt sophomore Jordan Gledhill in the mile. Gledhill ran a personal-record 4:17.46 in the event. 

Action began in the women's shot put where a trio of Sooners went third, fourth and fifth in the event. Sophomore Payden Montana threw 54-1 (16.48m) in her last throw, securing af third-place finish. Senior Lauren Jones took fourth with her personal-record 53-4.25 (16.26m) throw. Jones's throw placed her on OU's all-time top-10 list, holding the No. 8 spot. Junior Faith Ette took fifth with a 51-7 (15.72) throw. All three Sooners best mark came from their last throw. Freshman Paige Low joined in on the action, finishing 14th in her Sooner debut. Low threw a 43-2.25 (13.16m) mark. 

On the men's side of the event, senior Cooper Campbell threw a mark of 59-3.5 (18.07m) to claim fourth. Sophomores Bryant Parlin and Diego Trevino finished in eighth and ninth, respectively. Parlin threw 54-3.25 (16.54m), while Trevino threw 51-8.25 (15.57m).

Every Sooner competing in the high jump, on both the men's and women's side, finished in the top 10. On the women's side, junior Madison Langley-Walker took second, clearing 5-9.25 (1.76m). Senior Falyn Reaugh recorded a height of 5-7.25 (1.71m), taking seventh. Redshirt junior Vernon Turner led the way for the men's squad, taking third with a clearing of 7-3.25 (2.22m). Junior Chris Banks recorded a season-best 6-10.25 (2.09m) and fifth place. Sophomore Keith Drapeau finished in eighth with a 6-6.25 (1.99m) height. 

In the women's mile, junior Jordyn Kaplan recorded her second personal record on the weekend, finishing the race in 5:00.63. Kaplan's time earned her second place. Sophomore Carson Hockersmith finished one spot behind Kaplan, recording a time of 5:05.76.

Senior Rayvon Allen led the way for OU in the men's triple jump, finishing in third. Allen recorded a personal-record 51-6.25 (15.70m) in the event, placing him No. 10 on OU's all-time top-10 list. Senior Garry Williams leaped 49-7.25 (15.12m) for a sixth-place finish, while freshman Kunle Akinlosotu jumped 48-11 (14.91m) for seventh.

On the women's side of the triple jump, senior Essence Thomas, junior Allanah Lee and sophomore Mikeisha Welcome went 5-6-7 in the event. Thomas's mark of 42-9.75 (13.05m) was good for a fifth-place finish. Lee leaped a personal-record 42-1.5 (12.84m), improving her mark on OU's all-time top-10 list from seventh to sixth. Welcome took seventh with her 42-1.25 (12.83m) mark. 

Three Sooners competed in the men's 3,000-meter run with freshman Branch Cox leading the way. Cox ran an 8:43.13, taking second. Senior Ryan Teuscher finished sixth in the event with a 8:53.68 time. Freshman Luke Schwartz finished in 9:18.40, finishing in 11th

On the track, redshirt sophomore Johnelle Joe PR'ed with a time of 1:11.79 in the men's 600 yards, claiming a seventh-place finish.

Junior Kristo Simulask was the lone Sooner to compete in the men's pole vault. Simulask cleared 15-5.75 (4.72m) in the event, finishing in 11th. 

Freshman Salim Epps ran a personal-record 21.46 in the men's 200-meter dash, finishing in 13th.

The Sooners will head to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Arkansas Qualifier on Friday, Feb. 19.
