Men's Gym Signs Two for 2022

NORMAN — University of Oklahoma men's gymnastics head coach Mark Williams announced the signing of a pair of talented recruits on Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period.

The Sooners inked Ignacio Yockers of Tulsa, Okla., and Leo Koike of Saitama Prefecture, Japan. Both will be OU freshmen during the 2022-23 school year.

"I'm excited about having both of them as a part of our team," said Williams. "I expect both Ignacio and Leo to make a contribution to our team right away."


Yockers

Ignacio Yockers / Pride Gymnastics Academy / Tulsa, Oklahoma

Yockers is a current senior at Jenks High School in Jenks, Okla., and a Level 10 gymnast at Pride Gymnastics Academy.

OU head coach Mark Williams on Yockers: 

"Ignacio is a U.S. Junior National Team member, a Merit Scholar finalist and he comes from Tulsa, so he's a local recruit we wanted to keep here at home. He's tremendous on pommel horse. He's very clean and does very well-executed gymnastics." 


Koike

Leo Koike / Tsurumi Junior Club / Saitama Prefecture, Japan

Koike is a 2021 graduate from Saitama Sakae High School in Saitama Prefecture, Japan and is a member at Tsurumi Junior Club.

OU head coach Mark Williams on Koike:
"Leo is a gymnast that is actually training in Japan at the moment but is a U.S. citizen. He has tremendous potential as an all-arounder and we're excited to have him here in Oklahoma."
