NORMAN — Oklahoma true freshman quarterback Caleb Williams has been named a semifinalist for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award, the Davey O'Brien Foundation announced Tuesday.
Williams is one of two freshmen among the 20 semifinalists (the other is Ohio State redshirt freshman C.J. Stroud). This is the seventh consecutive year that Oklahoma has produced a Davey O'Brien Award semifinalist.
Williams, who has started three games this season, has completed 71.6% of his passes (78 of 109) for 1,189 yards and 14 touchdowns with one interception. He has also rushed 31 times for 288 yards (9.3 yards per carry) and four scores. His 203.7 passing efficiency rating ranks second nationally (to Coastal Carolina's Grayson McCall), and he has thrown at least two touchdown passes in each of the last four contests, dating back to the Oct. 9 Texas game.

Since taking over primary quarterback responsibilities with 6:41 left in the second quarter against Texas, Williams has completed 72 of 98 pass attempts (73.5%) for 1,087 yards and 14 touchdowns against one interception (his 211.7 pass efficiency rating is the nation's best since Oct. 9). He has also rushed 26 times for 227 yards (8.7 average) and TDs of 66, 41 and 40 yards in the four games.
The Washington, D.C., product has four of OU's seven longest rushes of the season – 66 yards for a TD vs. Texas (tied for team's longest), 59 vs. Western Carolina, 41 vs. TCU and 40 vs. Kansas. Against Texas Tech on Oct. 30, he became just the third player in OU history to throw for at least six touchdowns without an interception, joining Heisman Trophy winners Baker Mayfield (2016 vs. Texas Tech) and Kyler Murray (2018 vs. Baylor).
The three finalists will be announced on Tuesday, Nov. 23. The winner will be announced live on Thursday, Dec. 9 on The Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN.
Finalists selection will be based on voting from the Davey O'Brien National Selection Committee as well as the second round of the Davey O'Brien Fan Vote, which will take place on the award's three social media accounts — Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. The top five vote getters on each platform will receive bonus committee member ballots which will be added to the votes cast by the national selection committee.
To participate in the fan vote, fans must like the original Davey O'Brien Award post highlighting the quarterback. Each round of the selection process will offer two one-week voting periods for fans.
