NORMAN – After opening the 2021-22 schedule with a 106-57 exhibition victory over Rogers State Nov. 1, Oklahoma (0-0, 0-0 Big 12) officially opens the Porter Moser era against Northwestern State (0-0, 0-0 Southland) Tuesday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m., at Lloyd Noble Center.
Against Rogers State, four Sooners finished with double-figure points and were led by Jacob Groves' 20 points off the bench. Umoja Gibson pitched in 19 points, while the Sooners dominated all facets of the game. OU tallied 18 3-pointers in the win and shot 69.6% from the field and 66.7% from the 3-point line.

SERIES HISTORY
- Oklahoma and Northwestern State meet for the seventh time and will play for the first time since 2017.
- Oklahoma owns a 6-0 advantage in the series and all six contests have been played in Norman.
- The Sooners and Demons first played in 1984-84 with OU earning the 98-62 victory.
- Oklahoma's average margin of victory over Northwestern State is 23.1 points per contest. The 2017 contest featured the largest margin of victory (37), while the 2013 game was decided by only four points.
- No current Sooner has played Northwestern State in the Crimson and Cream. Brady Manek played on the 2017-18 squad but transferred to North Carolina. Manek finished the 2017 contest with 22 points on 9-for-11 shooting.
LAST MEETING VS. NORTHWESTERN STATE
- Then No. 17/17 Oklahoma tallied an impressive 105-68 victory over Northwestern State behind a record setting assist performance by Trae Young. Young also led the Sooners with 26 points, while the OU defense forced 23 turnovers.
- Young's 22 assists tied the major college record set by Tony Fairley of Charleston Southern vs. Armstrong in 1987 and matched by Southern's Avery Johnson against Texas Southern in 1988 and Syracuse's Sherman Douglas against Providence in 1989.
- Young also broke the former Big 12 record of 18, set by Oklahoma's Michael Johnson vs. North Texas in 1997, and matched by Oklahoma State's Doug Gottlieb vs. Florida Atlantic in 1998.
- Former Oklahoma head men's basketball coach Lon Kruger recorded his 610th career win, moving him past former Oklahoma coach Billy Tubbs (609) on the all-time Division I coaching wins list.
LAST TIME OUT ...
- Oklahoma opened the Porter Moser era with a dominant 106-57 victory over Rogers State in OU's lone exhibition of the 2021-22 schedule.
- OU outrebounded RSU 33-20 and also the Sooners also assisted on 25 of their possessions, while the Hillcats only tallied five.
- OU shot a remarkable 69.6% from the field and tallied 18 made 3-pointers to finish the night shooting 66.7% from beyond the arc. Jacob Groves led OU from 3-point land and overall and notched 20 points on 7-for-7 shooting (6-for-6 from three). Umoja Gibson also finished his night perfect from the 3-point line (4-for-4) and recorded 19 points in the victory.
- Elijah Harkless and C.J. Noland each reached double figures against RSU and finished with 13 points each. Noland, appearing in his first action in the Crimson and Cream, finished 4-for-6 from the field and 3-for-4 from three.

- Oklahoma continues its home stand to start the 2021-22 slate when the UTSA Roadrunners visit Norman Nov. 12 at 7 p.m.
- OU holds a 6-0 advantage over UTSA and a 4-0 record against the Roadrunners in Norman.
- The Sooners opened the unusual non-conference slate last season with UTSA after games at UCF and against Florida were canceled. OU dominated the Roadrunners 105-66 Dec. 3, 2020.
- The win last season marked the third game in the series when the Sooners topped 100-plus points. OU opened the series with a 112-72 win (1983) and followed it up in the second series appearance with a 107-75 win (1995) in Norman.
- Umoja Gibson earned the start in the victory last season and scored eight points in 18 minutes. Jalen Hill added seven points and grabbed six boards.
- UTSA head men's basketball coach Steve Henson served five years (2011-16) as an OU assistant coach under former head coach Lon Kruger. Henson also spent seven seasons with Kruger at UNLV (2004-11) and one season at Illinois (1999-2000).
