NORMAN – Nine members of the Oklahoma volleyball team were named 2021 Academic All-Big 12 selections, the conference announced Wednesday.

Aysia Harty,
Sarah Sanders and
Sabrina Simms, juniors
Olivia LittleJim and
Grace Talpash and sophomores
Tyler Alcorn,
Sam Anthony and
Kelsey Carrington all earned first team recognition.
Overall, 85 Big 12 student-athletes earned the academic recognition this year with 75 being placed on the first team and 10 on the second team. Kansas led the conference with 12 selections and four first-team members honored with 4.00 GPAs.
Carrington and Sanders were both nominated with 4.0 GPAs.
Under fourth-year head coach
Lindsey Gray-Walton, at least six Sooners have been honored each year during her tenure with 32 total athletes earning accolades. The nine athletes recognized in 2021 ties for the most under Gray-Walton.
Sanders was honored for the fourth time in her career. Harty earned her third career accolade, while LittleJim and Simms each earned their second honor. Talpash, Alcorn, Anthony and Carrington each earned their first career recognitions.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
