NORMAN — Head coach K.J. Kindler and the Oklahoma women's gymnastics program announced the signing of two dynamic athletes Wednesday. Faith Torrez and Ava Siegfeldt will join the Sooners for the 2022-23 season.
"We are thrilled to welcome Faith and Ava," Kindler said. "Both women have earned national team member status during their careers following in the footsteps of OU greats Hollie Vise, Natasha Kelley, Rebecca Clark, Brenna Dowell, McKenzie Wofford and Maggie Nichols, while joining current Sooners Olivia Trautman, Ragan Smith and Audrey Davis. Sooner fans can expect for these two phenoms to continue the OU tradition of excellence."

Torrez, a native of Bristol, Wis., is a current senior elite level gymnast training at Legacy Elite Gymnastics under Jiani Wu, Yuejiu Li and Anna Li.
"Faith is one of the most talented gymnasts of modern times," Kindler said. "Her abilities are immeasurable and her trajectory in the sport unlimited. We spotted Faith at a young age and watched her career blossom as she began training at the elite level. She earned a position on the USA National Team in short order after making the decision to train elite. Faith is deceptively quick and packs an unexpected punch on both vault and floor. Though she is exceptional across the board, balance beam stands out as her strongest event."
Torrez was named to the senior national team in March 2020 and made her international debut at Gymnix International where she won a team gold medal. Individually, she captured gold on beam and bronze on bars. In 2021, she competed at the American Classic, placing seventh in the all-around with sixth-place finishes on beam and floor. In 2019, she competed at the Nastia Liukin Cup, finishing seventh in the all-around. At the American Classic, she won all-around gold and gold on vault, silver on bars and floor and bronze on beam. At the U.S. Gymnastics Championships, she finished 14th in the all-around.
"When I first saw Faith on beam I was mesmerized by her ease and steadiness," Kindler said. "It is rare to see an athlete who is so dominant and comfortable on this event that they actually look like they are performing on the floor. She is an NCAA champion waiting to happen.Faith's natural talent is astounding. Beyond her athletics, Faith is loyal, trusting and sensitive. She was looking for a home away from home and OU was a perfect fit! Our connection was clear at the beginning of this process and I am excited to see her shine as a Sooner."
Torrez is the daughter of Carrie and Roy Torrez and has two siblings: Daniel and Taylor. She plans to major in sports medicine at Oklahoma.
"Once I visited and met the coaches, I felt right at home and loved every second of being on campus," Torrez said. "I felt so comfortable and I knew it was the right fit for me gymnastics and education wise."

Siegfeldt, a native of Williamsburg, Va., is a current senior elite gymnast at World Class Gymnastics where she trains under Tami and Rex Harrison.
"Ava is a current USA Team Member and is fresh off of her appearance at Olympic Trials as one of only 16 women in the country to participate in this prestigious event," Kindler said. "It is an incredible honor to compete with such an exclusive group and Ava seized the moment by hitting every event in this two day competition exhibiting her consistency under pressure. Ava is going to be a stunner for OU with a plethora of unique skills and unrelenting power. She will undoubtedly contribute in the all-around."
Siegfeldt brings extensive experience to Oklahoma. She finished 14th at the 2021 U.S. Olympic Trials and 15th at the 2021 U.S. Championships. She also competed at the 2021 GK U.S. Classic and the 2021 American Classic. As a junior, she competed at the 2019 GK Classic where she finished second on bars, third on floor and seventh in the all-around. At the 2018 Junior Olympic National Championships, she finished fourth on vault.
"It has been so amazing to see Ava's dreams come true," Kindler said. "What I am most impressed with is her personal evolution. I have watched her ambition and confidence grow over the past three years. The goals she sought, she and her coaches achieved. Remarkable! "Ava's passion is evident in her resolve. She is directed and ambitious! Our first conversation was unforgettable! She was a Sooner from the moment she first stepped foot on campus with a gleam in her eye and a decisive nature that were contagious. She is destined to do great things!"
Siegfeldt is the daughter of Amber Siegfeldt and plans to major in chemistry at Oklahoma.
"I chose Oklahoma because it was everything I was looking for," Siegfeldt said. "From the coaching staff, the team and, of course, the desire to win a national championship, it's everything I could have dreamed of."
