FORT WORTH, Texas – The Oklahoma volleyball team dropped a five-set match at TCU Friday night, 3-2, inside Schollmaier Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
The Sooners (8-9, 2-4 Big 12) were up 2-0 in the match after taking the first two sets. TCU (7-7, 1-3 Big 12) came back to pull the reverse sweep on the Sooners as they took the match 13-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-22, 15-12.
Megan Wilson had an impressive outing, notching 17 kills at a .375 clip with just two errors. The freshman also tallied five blocks, including four solo.
Paige Anderson added nine kills at a .412 clip to go with eight blocks, six of which she had in the first set.
Sabrina Simms made her first start of the season and had quite the showing, tallying seven kills and nine blocks.
Olivia LittleJim chipped in six kills and
Savannah Davison added five.
Peyton Dunn notched 32 assists to go with four kills, six digs and six blocks.
Defensively, the Sooners notched 22 blocks as a team. LittleJim led the squad in digs with 15, followed by 13 from
Callie Kemohah.
The Sooners carried the momentum from Friday into the first set, jumping out to an early 10-4 lead thanks to four blocks from Anderson. OU kept its lead large, forcing a TCU timeout with a 15-7 lead. Dunn picked up her first kill of the day as the Sooners improved their lead to 11 at 19-8. A combo-block from Alcorn and Dunn sealed the first set, 25-13, for Oklahoma.
TCU took the early lead in the second set, 6-3. A kill from Wilson and a block by Dunn tied the match at 13-all as the Sooners fought back from the early deficit. The Sooners continued to push and came up with the lead at 15-13. The teams traded points with the final tie at 21-all before the Sooners took the lead for the final time. A service ace from Harty would clinch the second set, 25-22.
OU ran out to a 6-1 lead in the third set. Anderson's seventh kill of the night gave the Sooners a five-point advantage at 9-4. TCU used a 6-3 run to pull within two, 12-10, but the Sooners answered right back to make it 15-12. The Frogs tied the match at 15-all and took the lead at 18-17. The Frogs would end the set on a 4-0 scoring run to take it, 25-19.
A 3-0 run and back-to-back kills from Wilson put the Sooners ahead 4-1 early in the fourth set. TCU climbed back to tie the match at 7-all and a block from Dunn and Alcorn put the Sooners back in front. The teams traded points for the lead, pulling even at 13-all. TCU used a 3-0 run to take the lead at 17-14 and force OU to call timeout. Out of the break, a kill from Dunn stopped the TCU run as the Frogs led 21-15. The Sooners' 18
th block of the night, this time from Wilson, capped a 3-0 run from the Sooners to force TCU to call timeout with a 22-18 lead. TCU would close out the set to force a fifth, 25-22.
In the decisive fifth set TCU held an early 4-1 advantage. The Sooners fought back and a kill from LittleJim tied the match at 6-all. OU took the lead at 8-7 and Wilson's 15
th kill of the night put the Sooners ahead 10-9. TCU took the lead back at 12-11 and closed out the set on a 5-1 run to win the set and the match.
The Sooners are back in action inside McCasland Field House Oct. 15-16. OU will host Texas Tech for their annual Pink Match on Friday night.
