October 25, 2021 | Men's Gymnastics
NORMAN — University of Oklahoma men's gymnastics alum Yul Moldauer concluded his time in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka, Japan at the 2021 World Gymnastics Championships with a fourth-place finish in the men's all-around final Friday morning and fifth-place spot in the parallel bars final on Sunday.
Moldauer competed in his fourth world all-around final representing Team USA, totaling 84.365 to secure the number four spot. The 2019 OU grad put up two top-three finishes on pommel horse (14.866) and parallel bars (14.900) out of the all-arounders, his horse score good for second and P-bars tally enough for third.
Additionally, Moldauer chipped in solid routines on floor (14.500) and vault (14.333) to help bring his all-around score to a 84.365. His floor score ranked fourth on the day, while his vault tally was good for 9th overall.
In the individual events final, Moldauer put up a 15.000 on parallel bars to take fifth on the event. The 2020 Olympian was just .066 away from the bronze medal spot.
Not only is the fourth-place finish Moldauer's best on a world stage, but the finish marks the best US men's gymnastics finish in the all-around at Worlds since fellow OU alum Jonathan Horton won bronze in 2010.
In the all-around qualifiers, the gymnast put up an 81.064 and had two top-ten scores on the day. A 14.866 on parallel bars was good for sixth and his 14.433 on floor was 10th overall in prelims.
The 18-time NCAA All-American, Moldauer, competed for Team USA at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where the team finished fifth overall and Moldauer placed sixth in the floor exercise event final. As is tradition for World Championships that directly follow an Olympic Games, the event did not feature a team competition.
