Sooners Sixth After First Day at Jim West Challenge

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Mikhaela Fortuna led Oklahoma women's golf through the first two rounds of the Jim West Challenge, and Sooners are tied with UNLV for sixth at Kissing Tree Golf Club Sunday evening.

"We finished our second round strong," said Oklahoma head women's golf coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. "We are excited to get back out in the morning and build on our strong finish to the afternoon."

Fortuna tallied four birdies in the first round and finished with a 1-under 71 on the par-72, 6,287 yard course. The senior started the second round with four birdies in the first seven holes and finished with a 3-under 69 to tie for ninth overall after day one.

Hannah Screen matched Fortuna's 69 in the second round for the lowest round by a Sooner. Screen tallied an opening round 74 and was even through the first nine in the second. She captured a trio of birdies on the back nine and is tied for 20th heading into the final day.

Nina Lang, who is competing in her second tournament in the OU lineup, concluded her first round with four birdies in her final five holes. She finished her first round 1-under 71 and tallied a 1-over 73 to finish her day. Lang is tied for 27th with an even-par 144.

Maria Fernanda Martinez tallied back-to-back rounds of 73 to finish with a 2-over 146, while Meagan Winans finished with 76-79 rounds to finish out the OU lineup.

The Sooners were tied for seventh following their opening round 289 and responded with a 284 to match UNLV to remain in a tie and move into sixth with the Rebels.

OU finished with the third-best mark on par 4s, tallying three shots under par, and Fortuna led the OU contingent with a 4-under on the par 4 holes.
