LUBBOCK, Texas – After trailing by as many as nine points late in the fourth quarter, the Oklahoma women's basketball team took Texas Tech to the wire and came out on top in a 75-74 thriller in Lubbock Wednesday night.
The victory was good for OU's first road win this season and its first in Lubbock since 2018. OU improves to 4-5 this season and 1-3 in Big 12 play. Texas Tech moves to 6-3 and 1-3 against league opponents.
The Sooners lead the game early, taking a 40-31 lead into the locker room at halftime. OU shot 45.5% (15-for-33) from the floor and 50.0% (7-for-14) from 3 during the first half.
Taylor Robertson had 12 points on 4-for-6 shooting from beyond the arc in the first half.
Texas Tech roared back in the second half, out scoring the Sooners 22-8 in the third period to pull ahead 53-48.
The Lady Raiders led 68-59 with four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter when OU rallied. The Sooners got hot for a 6-0 run sealed by a
Gabby Gregory 3-point dagger with 1:21 remaining to tie the game at 70.
Tech scored to take a 72-70 lead, but the Sooners quickly answered as
Taylor Robertson came down the floor to hit her seventh 3-pointer of the night with 37.9 on the clock. Texas Tech scored again, forcing OU to use its final timeout. When play resumed, Mandy Simspon was fouled and went to the line to shoot two.
Simpson sank both free throws to give OU a 75-74 edge with just 8.4 seconds left in the game. Texas Tech used its final timeout to advance the ball, but the Sooners' defense held strong on the final play to close out the game.
Robertson finished the contest with a game-high 24 points on 7-for-10 shooting from beyond the arc. She was also 3-for-3 from the free throw line.
Gregory scored 16 with 12 of her points coming during the fourth quarter.
Madi Williams finished with 12 points and three assists, while Simpson tallied 10 and was 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
OU finished the game shooting 52.5% (31-for-59), including a 72.7% (8-for-11) clip in the fourth quarter.
