AMES, Iowa ā The Oklahoma women's basketball team gave No. 24 Iowa State all it could handle Tuesday night as the Sooners took the Cyclones to the wire in a 64-63 decision that went to Iowa State.
With the loss, OU moves to 4-6 on the season and 1-5 against Big 12 opponents, while the Cyclones improve to 10-4 and 6-1 against the league with their fourth consecutive win.
OU's
Taylor Robertson shone, scoring 26 points on 8-for-15 shooting, all from beyond the arc. Robertson's eight treys were just one shy of her career high and the OU single-game record. Additionally, that mark tied the Hilton Coliseum record for the most triples by a player from the visiting team.
Two more players scored in double figures as Gabbby Gregory chipped in 12 and six rebounds and
Madi Williams tallied 11. Senior
Mandy Simpson led all players in rebounds with a season-high 13 and dished four assists.
OU started the game shooting hot, leading by seven through the first quarter. Iowa State used a 10-0 run in the second quarter to pull ahead, but a pair of late 3-pointers from Robertson gave OU a 37-36 advantage. ISU hit a 3 at the buzzer to retake the lead at 39-37 headed into the locker room at the half.
OU led the game until the final seconds of the second half. With 21.7 seconds on the clock, OU held a 61-60 advantage as Robertson was fouled and hit both of her free throws to boost OU 63-60. Ā
Iowa State used a timeout, then hit a layup with 21.7 seconds to come within one and OU called time. ISU hit another layup out of that timeout for a 64-63 with 10.2 to go and the Sooners used their final timeout. A heave at the buzzer by
Tatum Veitenheimer landed short and OU fell to the Cyclones.
