NORMAN ā University of Oklahoma men's gymnasts Morgan Seyler and Zach Nunez collected gymnast of the week honors following OU's home-opening victory over Air Force on Jan. 23.Ā
The junior, Seyler, won Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Gymnast of the Week following his all-around victory on Saturday. Seyler put up a 76.700 to win the all-around crown by three points. The Flower Mound, Texas, native registered career bests on still rings (13.300) and high bar (13.100) and brought home a runner-up finish on floor exercise with a 14.300 routine.Ā
Nunez, a freshman out of Cypress, Texas, claimed his first career "of the week" honor, winning College Gymnastics Association's Rookie of the Week following his strong performance against the Falcons. Nunez paced the OU squad on pommel horse in his first meet inside McCasland Field House, recording a career-best 13.750 to claim the event title. Nunez also chipped in a 13.150 on high bar, his first time competing the event for the Sooners.Ā
No. 1 Oklahoma returns to competition Saturday, Jan. 30 to face off against No. 8 Army in OU's first virtual meet of the season on the platform, Virtius. The Sooners will compete in McCasland Field House in front a pass-list only crowd, while Army will compete from their home gym in West Point. The meet is slated to begin at 3 p.m. CT.
