September 04, 2020 | Baseball

NORMAN — University of Oklahoma and Marucci Sports announced a deal for Marucci to become the official baseball equipment provider for the Sooners.

As part of the agreement, Marucci will be Oklahoma's official provider of bats, fielding gloves and helmets. OU and Marucci will work together to develop custom bats and gloves for the Sooners student-athletes.

"We have been familiar with Marucci for a long time as a premier manufacturer of baseball equipment, and we are excited to work with them to bring their high-quality products to our program," Oklahoma head coach Skip Johnson said. "We look forward to working together with Marucci to develop custom products and equip our student-athletes with the best gear in the game."

Oklahoma has sustained success on the baseball diamond throughout its history, from national championships in 1951 and 1994 to its 10 College World Series appearances and 22 conference titles. In its nearly two decades, Marucci has become a trusted provider of bats to many of the top players in Major League Baseball, as well as equipment to some of the premier college programs in the country.

"Marucci Sports is thrilled to become the official hard goods provider for the University of Oklahoma baseball program," said Kyle Achord, Marucci Vice President of Team Sales. "The OU brand is known worldwide and we are excited to have our brand connected with it. We look forward to providing the best service possible to head coach Skip Johnson, his staff, and the Sooner baseball players. Having known Coach Johnson and the strength of the OU Baseball program, we jumped at the opportunity to have them in the Marucci Family."

Said Marucci Director of College Sales Justin Cryer: "We are excited to add another Big 12 program to our college lineup. The consistent success of OU's Baseball program speaks for itself and we look forward to working with one of the nation's top baseball programs."

Oklahoma has sent 73 alumni to the major leagues, including five on MLB rosters to begin the 2020 season, and has produced at least one MLB draft pick each year since 1970 (281 draft selections overall). Entering its fourth year under Johnson's direction, OU went 14-4 in the shortened 2020 season and was ranked as high as No. 9 in the final national polls.
