NORMAN – Incoming freshman Heavenly Greer has been named the 2020 John R. Wooden High School Player of the Year for the CIF Southern Section Division V, the Los Angeles Athletic Club announced.
Created in 1976, the John R. Wooden Award Program hosts the most prestigious honors in college basketball. The High School Player of the Year awards are presented to the most valuable player in each California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section division and the Los Angeles City Section.
Greer, a 6-3 forward out of Ganesha High School in Pomona, Calif., earned the award for her district after leading Ganesha to the CIF Southern Section Division 5A championship and the CIF State Championship's second round.
Greer averaged a stuffed stat sheet during her senior season, accounting for 26 points, 15 rebounds, seven blocks, five steals and seven assists per game.
"We are so proud of Heavenly," said Oklahoma head coach
Sherri Coale. "Being named the John R. Wooden High School Player of the Year is an amazing honor. I think the recognition speaks to both her performance during the 2019-2020 season at Ganesha High School and to her potential as one of the premiere players entering the collegiate ranks this year."
While at Ganesha, Greer was the CIF Southern Section District 5A Player of the Year as well as a First Team All-Area and All-Miramonte League selection and California All-State nominee.
Greer began her prep career at Shadow Mountain High School in Phoenix, Ariz., before transferring to Ganesha. As a junior in 2019, Greer helped lead Shadow Mountain to a 28-3 record and the 4A state title.
Greer scored 1,403 points and pulled down 820 boards during her high school career while also recording a monster 312 blocks.
She was a McDonald's All-America Game nominee and ranked No. 23 in her position by ESPN Hoopgurlz as well as No. 59 nationally by Prospects Nation.
