NORMAN – Senior Maggie Nichols and freshman Ragan Smith captured individual awards and four Sooners earned a league-best 11 All-Big 12 selections, the conference announced Monday.

Nichols was named the Big 12 Gymnast of the Year for the second time in her career and was her third major conference honor after earning Big 12 Newcomer of the Year in 2017. Smith was recognized as the conference Newcomer of the Year after an incredible freshman season.

The honor for Nichols marked the eighth-straight year that a Sooner was named Gymnast of the Year. Nichols is the fifth gymnast in conference history to earn multiple Gymnast of the Year honors.

Smith is the eighth Sooner to earn Newcomer of the Year and joins teammates Nichols, Anastasia Webb and Olivia Trautman as current Sooners to have earned the award.

This season marks the 13th straight year that the Sooners have led the conference in All-Big 12 selections and the 13th consecutive season that the Sooners have earned at least eight all-conference selections.

The All-Big 12 squad consists of the conference gymnasts with the top three highest national qualifying scores (NQS) on each event in addition to the top two all-around gymnasts.

Nichols secured a league-best five awards to become the first gymnast in conference history to earn All-Big 12 honors on all four events and the all-around in three different seasons. She was the first to achieve the feat in back-to-back seasons (2017, 2018) and is one of just six to earn five Big 12 awards in one season along with Maddie Karr (Denver, 2018), Sarah Shire (Missouri, 2010), Richelle Simpson (Nebraska, 2003, 2005), Kasie Tamayo (Oklahoma, 2004) and Betsy Hamm (Iowa State, 2000).

Webb earned a trio of honors with recognition on vault, beam and floor. Webb finished the 2020 season ranked No. 2 in the nation on vault with a 9.935 NQS. The junior now has six career Big 12 honors including two on floor, two on vault and one on beam and in the all-around.

In addition to her major award, Smith picked up a pair of honors, earning recognition on both bars and beam.

Degouveia earned her first career All-Big 12 honor with recognition on bars in her first and only season competing the event.
