Mikhaela Fortuna sunk seven birdies over two rounds of play to take hold of a share of fourth place at the Hurricane Invitational to lead the OU women's golf team on Monday. As a team, the Sooners are alone in ninth place after carding rounds of 309 and 302 at the Biltmore Golf Club in Coral Gables, Fla.
Fortuna (+2) finished day one as the only golfer ranked in Golfstat's top 100 to end day one inside the top 10, and will head into the final day ahead of 11 top-100 golfers. If the Manila, Phillipines, native holds on to her position, it would mark the best finish of the sophomore's career.Ā

Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said after the rounds. "She was superb around the greens which lead to two good rounds for her individually."
Maria Fernanda Martinez finished the day just four shots off the lead among all golfers playing as individuals. She fired rounds of 79 and 72 to place herself into a tie for 26th after 36 holes.Ā
After two rounds of play, there are no teams under par, as unranked TCU holds the tournament lead at 8-oFortuna (+2) carded rounds of 75 and 71 to finish day one as the only golfer ranked in Golfstat's top 100 inside the top 10ver, with no other team below 15-over. The course presented a tough challenge on day one, as windy conditions affected scoring. The Sooners are 35-over heading into Tuesday's final round of the 54-hole tournament, but were able to play better in Monday's second round, firing a 14-over, the sixth best second-round score in the field.Ā
"Today definitely wasn't our best effort." Drouin-Luttrell said. "We put ourselves into some spots that made the game more difficult than it needed to be. But tomorrow is a new day and a new opportunity for us."
Libby Winans (+8) shot a 2-over, 74, in round two to move into a tie for 29th. The sophomore led the team with 20 pars on Monday, in addition to five birdies.Ā
Sydney Youngblood played well in the first round, carding a 3-over, 75, to place her into a tie for 27th after the first round. The junior started her second round with a birdie and three pars, and leaped as high as 17th on the leaderboard before she finished with a pair of double-bogeys to move her into a tie for 38th at 10-over.Ā

Ellen SecorĀ (+17) is tied for 62nd.
The Sooners will conclude play on Tuesday when they tee off at 7 a.m. CT. Oklahoma will be paired with Texas State and host school Miami for the final round.Ā
