KEY NOTES OF THE WEEK
  • Oklahoma went 2-1 at the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic with wins over No. 6 Arkansas 6-3 and No. 14 LSU 1-0.
  • Junior Dane Acker pitched a no-hitter against LSU on Sunday at Minute Maid Park, striking out 11 batters in the process. It was OU's first individual nine-inning no-hitter since Jim Huslig in 1989 against Old Dominion.
  • The no-hitter was the first in Shriners College Classic history, the 11th individual no-hitter in Big 12 history and first since 2017, and the first time the LSU program has been no-hit in a nine-inning game in recorded history.Ā
  • Acker's effort was also OU's first complete game since 2015 (Alec Hansen vs. Texas Tech) and first complete-game shutout since 2013 (Jonathan Gray vs. Northwestern State). The Sooners pitched a combined no-hitter against Arkansas-Pine Bluff in 2005.
  • Junior catcher Justin Mitchell, who caught Acker's no-hitter, provided the only offense in Sunday's game with his first career home run. He deposited a solo homer on the first pitch of the eighth inning over the wall in left field and into Minute Maid Park's Crawford Boxes. Mitchell hit .429 and also doubled in the tournament.
  • Sophomore Wyatt Olds earned the win against Arkansas on Friday with three scoreless innings in which he struck out six batters. He improved to 3-0 on the season.
  • Junior Cade Cavalli registered a career-high 11 strikeouts in 5.0 innings against Arkansas on Friday. He scattered six hits and allowed three runs.
  • The Sooners struck out 18 batters in the 6-3 win over Arkansas on Friday. Senior Jason Ruffcorn struck out his first batter in the ninth inning and earned his fourth save of the season.
  • Senior shortstop Brandon Zaragoza led OU with a .444 batting average (4 for 9), drove in two runs and scored a run.
  • Junior center fielder Tanner Tredaway hit .308 in the tournament, doubling twice and driving in two runs. He ran down a ball in left center field in Sunday's no-hitter, making the catch against the wall in front of the visitor's bullpen.
  • Freshmen Peyton Graham and Kendall Pettis each hit their first career home runs on Saturday at Minute Maid Park. Graham led off the fifth with a solo shot to left center and Pettis hit a two-run homer into the Crawford Boxes in left field in the sixth.
