NORMAN – The Oklahoma men's tennis team returns to the Headington Family Tennis Center on Monday to host No. 30 Pepperdine. OU will look to push its winning streak to six matches as the Sooners welcome the Waves at 1 p.m. CT.
The Sooners
The No. 42 Sooners enter Monday's contest at 8-3 on the season. The match will be No. 42 OU's second consecutive against a ranked opponents after the Sooners took out No. 15 Florida State 4-3 on Friday in Orlando.
OU is 2-2 against ranked opponents this season and has won its last two meetings against teams in the ITA release.
OU will face a familiar opponent in Pepperdine's Adrian Oetzbach, who played at OU from 2017-18. Oetzbach has played in the top three of the Waves' lineup all season.
The Sooners have won their last five matches straight, going undefeated during the month of February. OU is also 6-1 at the Headington Family Tennis Center this season with its sole loss a narrow 4-3 defeat by then-No. 18 Tennessee on Jan. 12.
Last Time Out
OU's lone senior came up big Friday night to clinch the Sooners' 4-3 comeback victory over No. 15 Florida State. With the match tied at 3-all,
Jochen Bertsch held on for a three-set win at the No. 6 line to claim the contest for the Sooners.
The Sooners took the doubles point handily. In their first match as a pair,
Jochen Bertsch and
Jake Van Emburgh rolled 6-2 at the No. 1 line.
Max Stewart and
Alex Martinez sealed the point with a 6-4 victory on court four. When play was halted,
Mason Beiler and
Justin Schlageter trailed 5-4 at the three spot.
FSU jumped out to a 3-1 lead in singles when it won the top three courts in order. OU's Martinez, Schlageter and Bertsch rallied to save the match with all three holding on to take their courts in three sets. Martinez took out No. 104 Singh Bhullar 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 at the No. 4 line before Schlageter tied the match with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Enzo Le Seguillion at the No. 5 line.
The contest came down to court six, where senior Bertsch clinched with a 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 win over Thongoana. Leading 5-4 on serve, Bertsch held at deuce point to secure the victory for the Sooners.
OU now owns two wins over teams ranked in the ITA top 25.
Sooners Streaking
OU enters Monday's contest on a five-match winning streak. The Sooners went undefeated during the month of February, notching wins over No. 24 Kentucky (4-0), Arkansas (4-3), San Diego (4-30, Incarnate Word (7-0) and No. 15 Florida State (4-3).
In singles,
Alex Martinez and
Jochen Bertsch have won each won four straight matches.
Martinez and
Max Stewart are 5-0 in doubles, playing primarily on court two. Martinez remains undefeated in doubles this season at 6-0.

OU is No. 42 in the most recent ITA computer rankings. The Sooners checked in at No. 24 in the Tennis Channel/USTA College Tennis Top 25.
