NORMAN – The No. 1 Oklahoma (8-1) men's gymnastics squad topped the No. 9 Iowa Hawkeyes (2-5), 411.600-403.250, in its 2020 home opener at McCasland Field House on Saturday night. The Sooners posted their second-best total score of the season, including season highs on a pair of events.

The Sooners were led by junior Gage Dyer, who recorded a trio of event titles. As a team, Oklahoma claimed five of six event victories and swept all six individual event titles in front of a crowd of 1,702 on OU's annual Cleveland Elementary Night. The victory extended Oklahoma's home winning streak to 74.

"I expected we'd have a lot of energy for the home opener, said OU head coach Mark Williams. "We still had a few mistakes, but I thought the guys competed well. We got a good score, our second best of the season. I'm pleased."

OU opened the night on floor exercise, tallying a score of 70.100. Dyer claimed his first title of the night with a 14.550 anchor routine. It was the junior's second-best floor mark of the campaign, only behind his 14.950 on Jan. 25 at the Stanford Open. In the five spot, sophomore Morgan Seyler opened what would be a solid night with a 14.300, also his second-best floor routine of the year.

In the second rotation, the Sooners posted a season-best 66.800 on pommel horse. The score is good for the third-best pommel score in the NCAA. Five of six Sooners tallied career-best scores on the event: David Sandro (13.500), Matt Wenske (12.450), Seyler (13.150; tied career best), Grant Kell (13.750) and Braden Collier (13.950). Collier, a redshirt freshman, claimed his first career individual title in his McCasland Field House debut and improved his team-leading pommel horse score.

Moving to still rings, Oklahoma put up a 67.150, led by Wenske's best mark of the season at 13.900. The score was the top mark for any Sooner on rings this season and good for Wenske's first event title of the year, while senior Collyn Kellogg posted a career-high 13.550.

Mason Menser and Spencer Goodell opened the Sooners' fourth rotation on vault with a pair of career bests. Menser put up a 14.650 in the leadoff position, which was good for the individual vault title. Goodell followed Menser's performance in the two-spot with a 14.200. Wenske registered OU's second-best mark on the event, a 14.500, while Seyler claimed a 14.300.

Dyer took home his second victory of the night on parallel bars, posting a 14.000, his second 14+ mark on p-bars this season. Wenske and Sandro each added career highs on the event with respective scores of 13.750 and 13.700.

In Oklahoma's final rotation at high bar, every Sooner posted a 13.200 or better on their way to a season-high 68.400. Dyer won his third event title of the meet with a career-high 13.950 anchor performance that's good for the best score of any Sooner on the event this season. In his McCasland Field House debut, redshirt junior Randy Scharnhorst stuck his landing for a career-best 13.750. Senior Grant Kell also earned a career best with a 13.450.

Three Sooners competed in the all-around, with Wenske leading the way for the Sooners with a second-place 81.050. Seyler finished third with a mark of 80.850, while junior Alexei Vernyi took sixth with a 75.950.
