NORMAN — University of Oklahoma head football coach Lincoln Riley announced the signing of high school seniors and four-star defenders Joshua Eaton and Reggie Grimes to national letters of intent Wednesday, increasing the Sooners' 2020 recruiting class to 23 members.

As of 4 p.m. CT Wednesday, Oklahoma's 2020 class was ranked ninth nationally by ESPN. It would mark OU's fourth straight year to assemble a top-10 group.

Eaton, who attends Aldine MacArthur High School in Houston, is a four-star cornerback by 247Sports, ESPN and Rivals. The No. 44 prospect in the state of Texas according to Rivals, the 6-2, 180-pounder is ranked as the No. 25 cornerback in the country by ESPN, No. 31 by Rivals and No. 33 by 247 Sports. Eaton was also recruited by Georgia, LSU, Texas and others.

Grimes is OU's highest-rated signee in the class, according to ESPN, which ranks him as the nation's No. 31 overall recruit. Like Eaton, the 6-4, 240-pounder is a consensus four-star prospect. He is ESPN's No. 3 outside linebacker and is rated as the nation's No. 7 and No. 13 weakside defensive end by Rivals and 247Sports, respectively. Grimes, who is considered by ESPN as the top player in Tennessee, hails from the city of Brentwood and attends Ravenwood High School. He finished his senior season with 51 tackles (19 for loss; 11 sacks) and two defensive touchdowns. He also played running back and totaled 205 yards and four TDs on 43 carries. GrimesĀ chose OU over Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee and others.

"We're very excited to add Josh and Reggie to an already outstanding group of signees," said Riley. "They're two very talented defensive players. We can't wait for them to join 'Speed D' and our championship program."

Ten of the Sooners' 2020 signees are already attending OU classes and will participate in spring practice. They are defensive linemen Joshua Ellison and Perrion Winfrey (both junior college transfers), athletes Davon Graham II and Mikey Henderson, running back Seth McGowan, receiver Marvin Mims, offensive linemen Noah Nelson and Andrew Raym, defensive back Bryson Washington and linebacker Shane Whitter.

Oklahoma finished 12-2 in 2019 for a third straight year under Riley. The Sooners won their fifth straight Big 12 title and advanced to the College Football Playoff for the third straight season and fourth time in five years.
