NORMAN – The Oklahoma baseball team has drawn national recognition, earning preseason rankings in four major polls heading into the 2020 season, which begins in less than four weeks.
The Sooners are ranked No. 19 in the Baseball America Top 25, No. 24 in the D1Baseball Preseason Top 25 and No. 24 by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. OU is also ranked No. 16 by Perfect Game and No. 30 in Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's preseason top 40.
Under third-year head coach Skip Johnson, the Sooners are looking for their 39th NCAA postseason appearance. OU ended the 2019 season with a 33-23 overall record and returns eight of nine position starters, three starting pitchers and six relievers that made at least 19 appearances last season. In all, OU features 16 returning letterwinners and 17 newcomers. The veteran returning group features 15 juniors and seniors.
Oklahoma opens the 2020 season Feb. 14-16 against Virginia in Pensacola, Fla., and opens its home schedule Feb. 18-19 against Texas Southern at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
