NORMAN – Freshman Ragan Smith was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Smith has been named the newcomer of the week four times in 2020. The Lewisville, Texas, native earned the recognition three weeks in a row to start the season. A Sooner has won the honor each week as freshman Vanessa Deniz was named newcomer of the week on Jan. 27.

The freshman notched two scores of 9.9 or better in her three events Friday night to help lead OU to victory over Iowa State. Smith took home the beam title with a 9.95 as she set a career and season high on the event. On bars, she added a 9.9 and has now scored a 9.9 or better in five of six meets this season. Smith added a 9.800 on floor to conclude her night.

Smith and the Sooners are back in action Sunday, Feb. 9, as they head to Denton, Texas, to take on Texas Woman's University. The meet is slated for a 2 p.m. CT start inside Kitty Magee Arena.
