NORMAN – Four Sooners were named to the 2020 Academic All-Big 12 team, the conference announced Tuesday.
Junior forward
Mandy Simpson and sophomore guards
Jessi Murcer and
Tatum Veitenheimer were named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team (includes student-athletes with a 3.20 or better GPA) while sophomore forward
Nydia Lampkin earned Academic All-Big 12 Second Team honors (3.00 GPA or higher).
This is the first career academic honor for Murcer, Veitenheimer and Lampkin and the second for Simpson, who is one of four Big 12 student-athletes to register a 4.0 GPA.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests.
Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
Under head coach
Sherri Coale, 66 OU players have earned a total of 131 Academic All-Big 12 honors.
The Sooners are home to host Kansas on Wednesday at 7 p.m. CT.
