KEY NOTES OF THE WEEK
- Oklahoma went 5-1 last week, playing 54 innings in a span of five days, with doubleheaders on both Friday and Saturday. The Sooners outscored their opponents 40-13 while hitting .303 with 31 extra base hits (61 total hits) and 13 stolen bases.
- A total of 17 players recorded a hit and 13 players scored a run last week. Six players ā juniors Trent Brown and Vinny Bologna, sophomore Jaret Godman, and freshmen Connor Beichler, Logan Kohler and Carter LaValley all recorded their first hits at OU.
- Through nine games, OU has 15 stolen bases. The Sooners finished the 2019 season with 29 steals.
- Junior outfielder Tanner Tredaway hit .500 with eight of his 12 hits going for extra bases. He put up a 1.125 slugging percentage, drove in six runs and scored seven runs. He homered twice and recorded three doubles and three triples.
- Junior Tyler Hardman hit .350 in six games with six of his seven hits going for extra bases. He homered in the first game on Saturday and hit five doubles. He drove in four runs and scored five and drew four walks, including two intentional walks. He also stole two bases.
- Freshman third baseman Peyton Graham hit .385 in the four-game series against Illinois State, driving in three runs and scoring three more. He doubled once, walked twice and stole two bases. His sacrifice fly drove in the winning run of OU's 3-2 win on Saturday and his base hit put the Sooners ahead 2-1 in their 4-1 victory Friday night.
- Junior Cade Cavalli went 7.0 innings, striking out nine batters and scattering a walk and six hits in the series opener on Friday. He held the Redbirds scoreless for the first six frames.
- Sophomore Wyatt Olds also struck out nine batters over 6.0 innings, allowing just one run on one hit.
- Senior Jason Ruffcorn earned the save in both games on Friday. He worked around a hit and got a strikeout to end the game, then retired all three batters in the second game.
- Junior Aaron Brooks retired all five batters he faced in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, striking out four of them, to earn his second career victory, and first since 2018.
- Junior catcher Justin Mitchell hit .417 in three games last week with a double, four RBI and a stolen base. He caught a runner stealing and picked a runner off first base.
- Redshirt sophomore Trent Brown homered in consecutive games against Texas Southern last week. His first hit at OU was a two-run home run on Tuesday, and he ended Wednesday's game with a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning, invoking the run rule.
- Freshman Jake Bennett made his first appearance and first start on the mound for the Sooners on Wednesday. He struck out the side in the first inning and finished the outing with seven strikeouts in 4.0 innings, earning his first career victory.
- Sophomore Ben Abram pitched 5.0 scoreless innings on Tuesday, striking out five and allowing just two hits in his first appearance of the season.
