OU Closes Hillenbrand Invite with Run-Rule Win

TUCSON, Ariz. — The No. 2/3 Oklahoma softball team (8-1) closed its weekend at the Hillenbrand Invitational on Sunday morning with a five-inning 8-0 run-rule victory over Northern Iowa (4-7).
After 2 1/2 innings scoreless innings, the Sooners got the bats going quickly in the bottom of the third. Following junior Jocelyn Alo's fourth home run of the season on a solo shot to center, sophomore Grace Lyons hit a two-run double down the right field line to score junior Lynnsie Elam and sophomore Grace Green.
The Sooners reeled off five runs in the bottom of the fourth to go up 8-0. Freshman Kinzie Hansen continued the hot start to her OU career with a two-run double to right center, bringing in Alo and junior Taylon Snow. The next batter for Oklahoma, Green, brought in Hansen with a standup double to center field. Elam followed by launching her fifth home run of the season, a two-run shot, to right field.
Senior RHP Shannon Saile (2-1) registered the win in the circle for OU, striking out five and allowing just three hits in 4.0 innings of work. Freshman LHP Alanna Thiede entered in the fifth inning to close for the Sooners, striking out one and retiring the Panthers in order.
Oklahoma finished the weekend in Tucson with four wins and one loss, highlighted by a 10-inning 8-6 victory over No. 4/4 Arizona on Saturday night.
The Sooners continue their season Feb. 21-23 with five games at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs, Calif. Included is a Feb. 22 matchup against No. 1/1 Washington.
