Kadiku, Barreau Set for U.S. National Team Tryout

NORMAN – Oklahoma volleyball's Brianna Kadiku and assistant coach Jake Barreau will spend Feb. 21-23 attending the U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryout in Colorado Springs, Colo. The three-day event takes place at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center (OPTC).

The tryout will evaluate athletes for both the U.S. Women's National Team and the U.S. Collegiate National Team program for athletes who have remaining eligibility after the 2019-20 season. Kadiku will have four sessions over the course of the three-day tryout, directed by national team head coach Karch Kiraly and his staff.

Barreau, in his second year with the Sooners, will be serving as a court coach for the three-day tryout.

"The opportunity ahead with Team USA will be invaluable to their development and future successes in the sport," head coach Lindsey Gray Walton said. "To compete and coach amongst the best in the county is a privilege and one that we are proud to have both Brianna & Jake representing Oklahoma Volleyball."

Kadiku, a middle blocker from Cedar Hill, Texas, led the Big 12 with 136 total blocks for a team-best 1.36 blocks per set. Twice she had a career-high 10 blocks in a match in 2019. Kadiku added 165 kills, including a season-high 13 against Arizona State, and 44 digs. She led the team with 29 service aces

"The opportunity to represent our program and to try out for USA alongside other great athletes is a dream come true for me," Kadiku said. "I'm excited and thankful to be able to show my abilities at the highest stage."

Selections for the U.S. Collegiate National Teams will be made by the end of March.

Selected athletes for the U.S. Women's National Team may begin their training in Anaheim, California, as early as the spring of 2020, or when an athlete's scholastic or professional club season has concluded.
