TUCSON, Ariz. — No. 2/3 Oklahoma (6-0) remained undefeated on the season with two wins Friday on the opening day of the Hillenbrand Invitational on the campus of the University of Arizona. The Sooners took Friday's first game over Bryant (0-2), 8-3, before topping Northern Iowa (3-5), 10-2, in six innings in the nightcap.
The Sooners were led by a combined three home runs from juniors Jocelyn Alo and Lynnsie Elam in OU's first game of the day. Alo homered twice, going 2-for-3 at the plate and driving in four runs while Elam hit a home run of her own in the fifth inning to put OU up by three runs. Junior Taylon Snow did her part for the Sooners in her first game back since getting injured in the season opener. Snow went 2-for-3 at the plate, registered the Sooners' first triple of the season and scored three runs.
Oklahoma trailed 1-0 after the top of the first inning but quickly took the lead in the bottom of the frame, registering three runs on two hits. Freshman Kinzie Hansen recorded her ninth hit of the season and extended her hitting streak to five games.
Freshman RHP Macy McAdoo (2.0 IP) registered the win for OU in the circle, while senior right-hander Shannon Saile earned her third save of the season with the help of three total strikeouts in the sixth and seventh innings.
Oklahoma's bats came alive in game two with four home runs. Elam opened up the homer brigade in the bottom of the first with a three-run shot before sophomore Grace Lyons and Snow cleared the center field wall with solo blasts in the bottom of the second. Lyons registered her second career game with three hits, going 3-for-3, while Snow notched her second career homer and finished 2-for-3. Elam, with two homers on the day, finished the second game 2-for-3 at the plate with 3 RBIs.
Hansen extended her hitting streak to six games and hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. She finished 2-for-4 with a team-high-tying three RBIs.
McAdoo earned her second win of the day in the circle, striking out a career-high five batters in relief. Another three OU pitchers saw the mound against UNI. Senior Giselle Juarez (0.2 IP) started the contest and struck out the only two batters she faced. Freshman LHP Alanna Thiede (1.0 IP) entered the game in the fourth inning and struck out one batter in her collegiate debut before Saile got the final two outs via strikeout.
The Sooners return to action for two games Saturday. OU faces off against Long Beach State (3-4) at 3 p.m. CT before a showdown with No. 4/4 Arizona (7-0) at 5:30 p.m.
