NORMAN ā After dropping a road contest at No. 2 Stanford, No. 1 Oklahoma still holds the top team average (410.100) along with the top team spots on floor exercise (72.333) and high bar (67.083).Ā
The Sooners rank in the top five on three of the other four events, holding second on vault (72.150), third on rings (66.717) and fourth on parallel bars (67.383).Ā
Individually, Sooners hold two of the top 10 spots in the all-around rankings, led by juniorĀ Alexei Vernyi'sĀ 81.300 score from the season-opening Rocky Mountain Open, which is good for fifth. JuniorĀ Gage DyerĀ holds eighth (80.850), while freshmanĀ David SandroĀ (79.350) is just outside the top ten at 11th. Ā
On floor exercise, Sooners hold both of the top two spots in the country. Dyer holds No. 1 with an average of 14.867. SophomoreĀ Vitaliy GuimaraesĀ (14.817) ranks second after posting the nation's top FX score with a 15.200 at the Stanford Open. SophomoreĀ Morgan SeylerĀ (14.325) is also in the top ten at ninth.
On still rings, Guimaraes (13.675) holds a share of tenth. The sophomore holds his second top-two event ranking on vault with a 14.767 average. Two other Sooners are ranked in the top ten with Seyler (14.383) in eighth, and redshirt sophomoreĀ Mason MenserĀ (14.375) holding ninth. Vernyi (14.350) sits just outside the top ten at 11th. Ā
On the final two events, Dyer ranks fifth on high bar with an average score of 13.717, while Sandro holds 11th on P-Bars (13.783).
Oklahoma has the weekend off for the first time in 2020 but returns to action Feb. 8 on their home floor for the first time of the season to face the No. 10 Iowa Hawkeyes at 7 p.m. CT. The meet will serve as "Cleveland Night" for the Sooners, an annual tradition that celebrates OU men's gymnastics' partnership with local school Cleveland Elementary. Fans are also encouraged to wear white as the team wants to "white out" the Field House for the home opener. Ā
OU will have three home meets in 2020 inside McCasland Field House, Iowa (Feb. 8), Air Force (March 14) and Cal (March 21).
