OU Student-Athletes Extend Record GPA Streak

NORMAN — University of Oklahoma student-athletes extended their streak of classroom success by posting a 3.08 cumulative GPA during the fall 2019 semester. The performance resulted in a school-record 16th straight semester of surpassing a 3.0 cumulative figure.

OU's streak of student-athletes posting at least a 3.0 GPA began in spring 2012. The 3.08 cumulative fall GPA reflects the overall academic performance of those student-athletes from their first semester of collegiate enrollment through the completion of the fall 2019 term.

Fifteen of OU's 19 athletics teams own better than a 3.0 cumulative GPA following the fall semester.

Four programs produced their highest cumulative GPAs: men's cross country (3.37), rowing (3.41), softball (3.25) and wrestling (3.15). The other 11 programs that possess a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 are baseball (3.06), men's gymnastics (3.18), men's tennis (3.17), men's track and field (3.02), women's golf (3.28), women's gymnastics (3.57), soccer (3.33), women's tennis (3.34) women's track and field (3.34), women's cross country (3.52) and volleyball (3.27).

In addition to the 16th straight semester of a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA, here is a look at recent academic accomplishments of OU student-athletes:

  • OU produced 349 Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll honorees for the fall semester (student-athletes who posted at least a 3.0 GPA for the term).
  • Seventy-four student-athletes registered a perfect 4.0 GPA during the fall semester.
  • Five OU programs registered a 100-percent multiyear Graduation Success Rate for the most recent reporting period: women's golf, men's gymnastics, women's gymnastics, men's tennis and women's tennis.
