Sooners Complete First Day of Worlds Camp

NORMAN – Three University of Oklahoma gymnasts began competition this afternoon in Colorado Springs, Colo., at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center for the World Team Selection Camp.

Former Sooners Yul Moldauer (82.650), Colin Van Wicklen (82.550) and Allan Bower (82.300) hold fourth, fifth and sixth place, respectively, in the all-around after day one of competition at the camp.

"We competed Olympic order and each guy hit six-for-six," said OU head coach Mark Williams, who is in Colorado for the camp. "I'm happy overall with all three guys. I'm proud of the fight in Yul after having been sick and having a rib injury which has made it difficult for him to do gymnastics, but he's still been able to get through all his routines.

"We're looking forward to Saturday to see if we can create a little more separation, but I think we're on track and want to do it again on the final day of the trials Saturday."

The three are competing against five fellow Team USA gymnasts for spots on the five-man U.S. World Championships team that will travel to Stuttgart, Germany, Oct. 4-13 for the 2019 World Championships. Additionally, one traveling alternate will be named to the team.

Van Wicklen tied for the highest vault score of the day, competing two vaults that each resulted in scores of 14.700. Bower posted the second-best tallies on both floor exercise (14.100) and pommel horse (14.000), while Moldauer hit the third-best floor exercise routine (13.800) and fourth-highest parallel bars (14.140) set.

Day two of the World Team Selection Camp competition begins Saturday at 3:30 p.m. CT. Fans can watch on the USA Gymnastics YouTube Channel. The five-man competing team plus one traveling alternate member will be named following the conclusion of camp this weekend.
