FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Oklahoma volleyball team fell to Cal 3-0 Friday in Fort Collins, Colo., in the first match of the Ram Volleyball Classic.
The Sooners (0-1, 0-0 Big 12) dropped to Cal (1-0, 0-0 Pac-12) 25-11, 25-20, 28-26 inside Moby Arena as the Bears out-killed OU 39-30 on a .224 hitting percentage while holding OU to .035.
Cal also led in blocks (10-9) and digs with 53 to OU's 34.
"We competed and got better in every set," said head coach
Lindsey Gray-Walton. "Now we know what we need to work on."
Keyton Kinley led OU in digs with 13 on the night, while
Kylee McLaughlin dished out 27 assists. Middle blocker
Paige Anderson recorded seven kills while newcomer Sanaa Dotson added five of her own on an impressive .714 clip.
Brianna Kadiku put up four blocks for the team-high, with three of those coming in the final set.
Cal jumped out to a 15-6 lead in the first set to claim the opening stanza 25-11. OU answered in the second, taking an early lead courtesy of a pair of kills by McLaughlin. The Sooners tied the set at 7-all with a double block by McLaughlin and Anderson, but the Bears used a six-point run to pull ahead 14-8 and ultimately close out set two 25-20.
A wild third set saw a late rally from the Sooners, but Cal prevailed 28-26 to close out the match. Dotson made her first appearance in the Crimson and Cream during the final set and tallied all five of her kills during the third, but OU came up short to the Golden Bears.

The Sooners are set for two more matches tomorrow. OU faces Chicago State at noon CT, followed by a marquee matchup with host Colorado State at 8:30 p.m.
