NORMAN – Seven members of the Oklahoma baseball team were named to the 2019 Academic All-Big 12 Team, the league office announced Tuesday. Three players were named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team while four were selected to the Academic All-Big 12 Second Team.
Senior outfielder Blake Brewster, sophomore pitcher Aaron Brooks and sophomore first baseman Tyler Hardman led the Sooners with first-team honors. Senior pitcher Ryan Madden, senior third baseman Brylie Ware, sophomore pitcher Cade Cavalli and sophomore catcher Justin Mitchell were named to the second team.
Brewster and Madden were Academic All-Big 12 selections in 2018.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
The Sooners close out the regular season this weekend with a three-game series at Texas. The series begins at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Austin, Texas.
