NORMAN – Earning its 18th run-rule win of the season, the No. 2/2 Oklahoma softball team used an 8-0, five-inning victory to claim the series win against Baylor on Saturday night at Marita Hynes Field.

The Sooners (34-2, 5-0 Big 12) extended their nation-leading win streak to 24 consecutive wins, marking the fourth-longest streak in program history.

Oklahoma has won 30 straight Big 12 games, extending a program record. Additionally, OU has not lost a conference series since 2011, a streak of 50 undefeated series (46-0-4 in that span).

With the win, OU also matched a school record with 45 straight victories at Marita Hynes Field. The Sooners have not lost a game at home since May 20, 2017.

"I like the way we went about things today," OU head coach Patty Gasso said. "I think it was a little bit more active with more quality at-bats. Mariah (Lopez) was on-point, very efficient tonight. It was a good, all-around performance today. It was a good win for us." 

Mariah Lopez earned her fifth shutout of the season, improving to 13-1 on the year. She scattered three hits over 5.0 innings while striking out five.

Caleigh Clifton, Grace Green and Lynnsie Elam all tallied a pair of hits in the contest. Green and Shay Knighten both homered to finish with multiple RBIs: Green recorded four while Knighten collected two. 

Oklahoma jumped out to a three-run lead in the first inning. The Sooners took advantage of a fielding error to load the bases before a sacrifice fly from Jocelyn Alo plated Falepolima Aviu. 

Green then drilled a single into left field to drive in Clifton and Knighten. 

The Sooners doubled their advantage with three more runs in the third. After Clifton opened the frame with a single, Knighten crushed her sixth home run of the season over the left-center wall. 

Nicole Mendes reached on a two-out error and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Lynnsie Elam capitalized, doubling to right center to bring Mendes home. 

Oklahoma sealed the run-rule win in walk-off fashion. After Alo drew a walk to open the bottom of the fifth, Green crushed the first pitch she saw over the left-field wall to end the game. 

The series finale between the Sooners and the Lady Bears is set for 12 p.m. on Sunday.
